I offer a number of courses (see below) – within a series of lessons we can easily switch between each level. The only difference in price comes when facilitating group lessons. Nevertheless, this gives an indication of the kinds of level we can work between as we explore what it is to ride a bike 🙂
Getting (re)- Started
This is included (naturally!) no matter which course you choose and whatever level you are currently at. Looking to buy a bike? Has it been a while? Do the bikes look a bit different in the Netherlands compared to what you are used to? I can help guide you on what you need to get and the best options for where you are at.
Learn to Ride
Does what it says on the tin! We’ll spend time in a traffic-free area helping you find your balance – and then, the pedals 🙂 I recommend booking 4 lessons for this sort of tuition. Whilst everyone varies in terms of how they learn, it makes sense to really work to hone your skills over a number of lessons and to work patiently. Sometimes it can take longer, I always work at your pace and try to help you find your cycling legs in a way that feels comfortable for you.
Improve your Skills
Before heading out onto the road it’s important to feel good controlling out bike, Here, we’ll spend time in an off-road/ extremely low traffic area, working on our skills, before heading out into the neighbourhood. (things like stopping/ starting, looking behind, producing a hand signal) When is the best time to head out? We’ll work out that together so that it feels like the right thing to do. Quiet areas always work well, first….
Out and About
Where would you like to go on your bike? At this level we’ll think of some places that you might want to go, plan a route, and… go there! We’ll take examples from the area around, relevant ones, and use certain junctions or traffic situations to grow our confidence. There is lots of understand, as well, so we’ll talk about some of the traffic laws and pick apart the best strategies for how to feel confident whilst out and about on a bike.
Group Lessons
The dutch ride two-by-two! Riding in a group is a natural part of being on a bike – but riding together can be as challenging as it can be fun. There are lots of skills to learn here – when is it best to ride two a breast, and when in single file? We’ll adapt a lot of the above courses into one that best helps you experience riding together in your group.
Family Lessons
When to learn to ride with a younger person who is still gaining experience as a rider? There is a lot to think of when helping guide a child on the road and working together as a team. So much of my work in the UK was spent riding with large groups of kids and guiding them on the road. In the Netherlands kids are often given the independence to get around on their own on a bike at an early age – I’ll help give you the skills you need to support them in this process.
